New on HBO Max in September 2020 I really enjoyed this film, John Goodman was not what I expected and all the actors do really well, always tricky in a small space it seems to me since they have less to rely on other than their own ability to draw you into the story and make it believable.
Unfortunately, this is not the case with 10 Cloverfield Lane, a spiritual successor to the found footage horror sci-fi film Cloverfield released back in 2008.
10 Cloverfield Lane is a movie you should rush out to the theater to go see. I'm fine with an expansion to the Cloverfield universe, as long as it's done with this level of quality and intelligence. Don't know if that's original or not, but I've never seen it before (and I'm no spring chicken.

John Goodman does a fantastic job portraying the questionably insane doomsday prepper: he is unpredictable, menacing (largely due to his size), and interesting, and more layers are added to his personality as Michelle and Emmett find out more about his past during the film's events. I REALLY enjoyed this movie.
As other reviewers have mentioned, it left me guessing as to what direction the movie was going.
