The canoe on the shelf at Dick’s was indeed a Discovery that was molded in the Guide Series Camo exclusively for Dick’s and was only available there. Sure enough it sold, along with a crap load of other items that made it the the best yard sale we have ever had.That afternoon I drove over to Dick’s with the money from the kayak sale and a ScoreCard rewards voucher for $50. I do normally use the two bladed paddle, but carry a single paddle also. The canoe is great, offering good initial and secondary stability, a comfortable seat that is neither too low nor too high, and good construction. everytime we want to go canoing it is always 3 or 5 or 7 people wanting to go. I have had 3 of these and the reason for 3 is every time I trade, sell or give to a son I miss it too much and get another. So I talked the wife into holding a yard sale that Saturday and I listed the kayak as an item that would be available during the sale in the ad on Craigslist.
I have owned one for two years and think it is a great canoe after some modifications. shipping charge.I have the same boat. What a great boat for the $! Like the others in the series, this solo canoe is agile, stable and easy to handle. I moved the seat forward about 4 inches and a bit lower to improve stability. Great one boat no doubt! Highly recommended.
I plan to purchase one from a Dick’s Store here in NJ soon but wondered what you thought about the seat since that is the only concern I have seen in other reviews. We paddle in the ocean and it is quite stable through large boat wakes and tidal currents. This is my favorite small boat yet!! Thanks for your review.
All that said, the 119 has a low profile for a canoe and is not greatly effected by the wind relative to other canoes that I own or have paddled over the years.I am heading down to dicks in the morning. I now use a double blade paddle almost exclusively even though I've always been a traditional canoeist in the past; it's just more efficient with this boat. GREAT SOLO FISHING PLATFORM. Added a cup holder similiar to yours and a padded seat that fits over the plastic one. Let the Discovery 119 … I’ll be going solo about 90% of the time and need something light weight, but I’d like to be able to take my wife (she’s about 100 lbs)and grandkids along for short rides on occasion.I would not recommend an additional person in this boat.
I strap a 2.7hp cruise n carry on the back left side and that thing is a blast to fly around in. Other's reviews helped me decide to give the 119 a try and I'm sure glad that I did.

I have other old town canoes which hold 2 people , so a canoe built for 1 is always good for the 3rd man out. MichaelNice boat, I have tried every Dicks in my area (within 100 miles), and can not find one. I did replace the stock seat, moved it forward six inches and lowered it three inches. have not used yet.
