I have a 2008 315 4×4 sprinter From new it was the worst 4×4 system Ive ever come across. This makes taking a heavy RV type vehicle over bumpy trails safer for the contents and the occupants.I’ll be interested to see what happens to performance when an additional 3000 pounds of RV is added to the van.Clearance was improved by 2 inches from the lift, and .5 inches from the tires. Tough call!It is a tough call. Even the upgrade from a Porsche 911 Carrera to a Carerra 4 (the AWD version) “only” costs $6,000 versus the Sprinter’s $7,800…the latter offering the least feature-equipped system of any 4×4 ever made! Take care!
Quadvan converts my 2019 Ford Transit Cargo Van to four wheel drive. The latter is common to ANY gasoline direct-injected engine, not just the Ford. I’m content with being able to get unstuck out of sand at the beach or up a slick, muddy hill is about all I hope to ever get into. Having read various reviews online it would appear that the Volkeswagon Crafter 4 motion is a more capable AWD vehicle, as they offer a rear lock differential option, plus you don’t need to slow down to engage the AWD system.I much prefer a system like that found in the Crafter and would have bought it in a heartbeat if it were available here in the U.S.Great article. It’s still a long, wide, tall, and heavy vehicle, but within those constraints the 4wd adds a great deal of opportunity.Shifting was solid and straightforward after some practice.

Any opinions?Greg, the aspects of the Sprinter 4×4 system that limit it offroad–the 35/65 torque split, non-locking center diff, etc., aren’t as big of a disadvantage for use in the snow. I was able to reach them at key points in the process – such as scheduling the van drop off, finalizing the work to be done, and picking up the van.
