I cannot figure out how to do it on the S20.

I am using custom tones for apps that work, and then suddenly after a couple days I have to restart my phone and they magically start working again. Some messages take precedence over others, so having the same notification tone for all your threads isn't always the best solution.

Click on what is usually titled "General Notifications" label and it will bring up a menu that has one option as "Sound".

Click the "Sound" option and you will get the list of default notification sounds with your sounds in the list in alphabetical order.

If you turn off vibration in the 'Notifications' menu on the OS, then turn it off in Whatsapp, it still vibrates for Whatsapp messages. Re: Notification sounds stop working

Before you start adjusting your settings, make sure you have installed any necessary system updates. Others were silent, even though I had it set to "sound".
