In a fascinating little bit of arithmetic, he would pay the same amount for the new Python in 2020.More than an homage, the checkered walnut scales are so close to the originals that they can be interchanged with many of the older model Pythons.
If you mentioned it I missed it, but there is a difference in the frame. It also has the 4.25 inch barrel. That number can be increased now that Colt is using a method of less hand fitting and more advanced manufacturing. ... 2020 is Trump's to Blow with Gun Owners David Codrea - July 09, 2019.
I was impressed with the finish on the King Cobra, and it looks even better when there’s more of it to look at.Original model “Police Python” (image courtesy JWT for thetruthaboutguns.com)Of course, we are all looking forward to the “Royal Blue” like the one above. A whole lot of people are starting to fire up their keyboards, telling me I’m wrong, yadda, yadda. Here’s a corrosive agent (ie, “blueing salts”) you couuld use for the job:There’s another blueing salt for stainless available through Brownells. It is plenty practically accurate and undoubtedly quite a bit more inherently accurate.Another thing we promise in our revolver testing standard operating procedure is some amount of carry.
If you get too close too quickly, you are in for a fight. The Uncle Mike’s shoulder holster isn’t expensive, but takes the weight of the revolver off of the belt and onto the shoulders. On and on, this crap is seemingly everywhere on guns now.
The new Python parts WILL NOT fit the old lockwork. THANKYOUAs a ffl of 35 years, I’ll make an educated guess that the new python will never change the market for well maintained originals. Wow. That was the “brushed stainless” finish then, to be followed by the “Ultimate Stainless” finish in 1984.The current 2020 Python is closer to the “Ultimate Stainless” finish, and far more polished than the base stainless version. (image courtesy JWT for thetruthaboutguns.com)The Python’s adjustable rear sight is very similar to the original. I’ve been careful with my money all my life and this is what it gets me. The Python had a $125 MSRP (the same as the Single Action Army). This is the 21st century. Chalk those up to me because this gun was phenomenally accurate. Colt made up to 50,000 plus yearly Pythons in the mid 80’s. The one negative is that there is “play” in the rear sights. The shooting hand thumb will find the spur with ease and surety. That’s nice when you are cocking the gun for single action fire, but especially nice if you need to carefully lower the hammer on a loaded chamber without firing the gun.The Python’s sight removal screw above the recessed target crown. Although I find the 4.25″ more practical, there’s no denying the perfect balance and fast shooting of the 6″ version. With .38 SPL target loads, recoil in either model new Python is very minimal and suitable for the most recoil adverse shooters.
Noooo. Five bullet diameters between farthest-apart holes in .38 caliber cannot result in a 0.9″ group as one of your pictures shows. I have a 1976 python and several Smiths that are all waaaay better.I bought a low serial number 6″ Python in February. I think it’s worth it to pay 1500 for a stainless gun manufactured to such high standards. The first python had light strikes, gouges on the crown and tool marks inside the barrel. Lanyard loop. Colt said that of all of the guns they had produced, only about 25 had been returned for any mechanical reliability issue. In a word, I felt the trigger reset was fine. 5 1/2 barrel. You made my heart flutter a bit with that descriptionI haven’t been here in a while due to health issues. You have to know how to shoot the Colt and it isn’t for everyone. It appears the sights are interchangeable, although obviously they are at different heights. The stock Python’s front sight, in both barrel lengths, includes a red ramp front. It never failed. It’s too expensive for me to afford, I’m not a fan of adjustable sights on my revolvers, I’m not a fan of serrated triggers (feels like my trigger finger tries out sooner dry-firing my old K-Frames compared to a smooth trigger face), and I have no need for the .357 Magnum chambering. Now with that out of the way, let me say that this is a very good and informative review. I was going to buy another AR but the Colt seems more appropriatejwt, thanks for the review. It’s a beautiful gun. In my initial review of the King Cobra I recorded some groups with this loading and noted that the published result was definitely a “best of” group. WOW!! Too bad I can’t afford one. It is polished to a mirrored finish that is incredibly smooth.
Only one 4″. But it takes much more time (in my limited experience) than blueing steel.
Is it a consistent weight, or is it somewhere between 7 and 9 and a half pounds?Deeply textured trigger shoe. Try to keep up with the conversation.Um… The double-action revolver predates metallic cartridges.
